Order vacates prior construction stays.
The Supreme Court vacated judicial stays this week that were issued earlier this month by the Fourth Circuit Court against the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The court sided with the developers of the natural gas pipeline after the company had made an emergency appeal.
The court’s order, which was not signed, granted the developer’s request to vacate a stay on a segment of the 305-mile pipeline. “The application to vacate stays presented to the Chief Justice and by him referred to the Court is granted,” the one-page order said.
The pipeline project, which runs from northwest West Virginia to southern Virginia, had been tied up in the federal debt ceiling negotiations. The Wilderness Society had opposed the last segment of the pipeline that will run through parts of the Jefferson National Forest.
